March 25, 2020 — Food and Consumer Products Canada (FCPC) today (Wednesday) welcomed the House and Senate approval and expected Royal Assent to implement federal economic stimulus measures as part of the country’s response to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak.
Responding to the approval of the stimulus package, FCPC President and CEO Michael Graydon commented:
“Canada’s largest manufacturing workforce commends the federal government for acting quickly to mitigate the profound impacts of Covid-19 on Canadian businesses, employees, consumers, and communities.
90 percent of Canadian food and consumer goods manufacturers are small businesses that are particularly vulnerable to the extraordinary costs and consequences of meeting record demand in these unprecedented conditions. The stimulus package’s direct support measures and flexibility like deferring tax payments will help these businesses stay open for the employees and customers relying on them.
FCPC continues to work closely with federal and provincial authorities to ensure effective support reaches the more than 300,000 people and 6500 facilities of all sizes who are responsible for making the essential products we are all counting on to see us through uncertain times ahead.”
FCPC is Canada's largest industry association representing the companies that manufacture and distribute the vast majority of food, beverage and consumer goods found on grocery store shelves. Our members provide jobs to almost 300,000 Canadians, and include small and large multinational and Canadian owned companies. Learn more at www.fcpc.ca and follow us at @FCPC1
