Metro Inc. executives respond to member questions at FCPC’s Trade Talks Breakfast

Mississauga, ONMetro Inc. executives sat for a Q&A session with almost 200 FCPC members at the Trade Talks Breakfast last week. FCPC’s Errol Cerit, Vice President, Industry Affairs & Supply Chain, fielded member questions to the three executives.

In speaking of Metro Inc.’s success in the grocery marketplace, Carmen Fortino, Executive Vice-President and Metro Ontario Division Head, said he attributes it to “One per cent strategy and 99 per cent execution.”

Fortino, in looking to build and develop a consistent and successful brand, asks himself: “How do I bring life to the store floor through the management? I always consider how my decisions in the office affect the customer experience on the floor.”

Serge Boulanger, Senior Vice-President, National Procurement and Corporate Brands, kicked off the session with an overview of Metro Inc.’s deductions simplification process that will be rolled out to all suppliers in the back half of 2016, he said “We always value the feedback we get through FCPC and strive for more simplicity to focus on selling the right products at the right price driven by our consumers’ needs.” 

Christian Bourbonnière, Executive Vice-President and Quebec Division Head, was asked about centre store assortment in Quebec “You want to be in stock, you want to have the right product on the shelf,” he said. “This is true for every banner of our organization.

There are so many products available, how many do you need to satisfy a customer? It’s not always quantity but presentation.”
