Recalls

Product safety is the number one priority of food, beverage and consumer products companies.  And Canada has one of the safest food systems in the world.  This is in large part due to the many regulations and strict good manufacturing principles put into place and closely followed by Canadian food, beverage and consumer products companies, their retail trading partners and those supply chain partners involved in the safe handling and distribution of food.

The industry, through FCPC, is also involved in the development and adoption of best practices related to the notification and handling of product recalls.  One such industry best practice is industry’s adoption of the GS1 recall portal which is also actively supported by Canadian retailers.

This industry-driven online communication tool, enables manufacturers to share real-time product notifications with their retail trading partners on affected products, and retailers to communicate back on the status of recalls, is another layer adding to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recall system in place.
