In December 2011, Prime Minister Harper and President Obama met to unveil the details of the Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness Joint Action Plan - an in-depth framework for Canada and the U.S. to work closer together as trading partners.
The announcement outlined a formal process for ongoing discussions to identify potential efficiencies and alignment opportunities, which will support Canadian companies to be more competitive. It will also save taxpayers money, while protecting "Made in Canada" final decisions and ensuring our world class food and consumer product safety standards.
The plan is an exciting, and much needed step forward that will save taxpayers money and benefit Canadians with innovative products that are made in Canada. It will also help boost the economy, enable Canadian companies to better compete on the global stage, while maintaining Canadian sovereignty and the world-class safety and quality of the products Canadians trust.
