Allergen Labelling

Since the early 90’s, FCPC and the industry have worked in partnership with Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to put in place effective food allergen labelling requirements.

The industry actively consults with the government to find a way to make allergen precautionary labelling more consistent and easier for consumers to understand. This includes our recent active participation in the consultation process that led to the development of new food labelling regulations.

FCPC member companies have taken numerous steps to address the needs of consumers with food allergies/sensitivities. Member companies made changes to product packaging to help consumers make more informed choices about the foods they buy and to manufacturing processes to reduce the potential for cross contact with major food allergens.

FCPC will continue to work with the government and our members on implementing the new labelling requirements.
