Statement Regarding Government of Ontario “Buy American” Advocacy

Created on 4/10/2017 4:20:17 PM

“FCPC is very pleased that New York State has decided not to proceed with "Buy American" provisions, as a direct result of lobbying efforts by Premier Kathleen Wynne and Brad Duguid, Economic Development and Growth Minister. We applaud Ontario’s leadership in fighting for free and fair bilateral trade and against “Buy American” threats. As a driving force within Ontario’s economy, the consumer goods manufacturing sector is following these discussions closely.

NAFTA has been a real success story for the consumer goods manufacturing sector in North America. Our highly integrated food supply chain is just one example. Protecting these successes and building on them is vital to the success of manufacturers on both sides of the border, including more than 100,000 high paying jobs in Ontario’s food processing industry. Securing this trading relationship also ensures consumers on both sides of the border continue to have access to a full array of safe, high-quality products. We look forward to continuing to work with Ontario on this critical file.”
